Available Remote Vacancies At Rec Room Company:

1. Analytics Engineer

Rec Room is the best place to build and play games together. Chat, hang out, explore MILLIONS of rooms, or build something new to share with us all! As an Analytics Engineer, you'll be a key member of a small team supporting our data warehouse and analytics layer, setting us up to scale in both the number of players and internal users. You will be supported by other analytics engineers, mentored and leveled to take on increasingly complex ELT and data modeling projects, and partner closely with teams such as Growth, Economy, User-generated Content, and Social, among others, empowering them to understand player behavior deeply. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Partner with PMs, designers, engineers, and analysts/data scientists to build out the data layer to empower analysis, experimentation, and new product features with the support of other senior engineers on the team.
  • Develop and maintain our ELT pipeline, which includes streaming, micro-batch, and daily batch load processes using tools such as Rudderstack, Fivetran, Prefect and DBT.
  • Develop data warehouse models on a Databricks SQL Warehouse using established patterns and processes that serve as the foundation for scaling our data.
  • Apply software engineering practices (e.g., code review, testing, version control, iterative development) when creating new datasets to ensure data quality across our pipelines and BI tools.
  • Work with the support of senior engineers, taking on increasingly complex projects. 
  • Design and implement top-level company dashboards to serve as the source of truth for company performance using tools such as Sigma and Hex.
  • Build out experimentation datasets and pipelines to allow for granular analysis of A/B tests.
  • Partner with ML teams to build out data models to be used in model deployment
  • Work with partner teams to build datasets that will impact production, such as creator and player statistics.
  • Be curious and constantly learning!

WE ARE LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH: 

  • 3+ years of SQL development experience. Experience with cloud / MPP data warehouse solutions such as Databricks SQL Warehouse is preferred.
  • Solid proficiency in SQL (aggregate functions, window functions, complex joins, CTE), including query optimization skills.
  • Previous experience with pipeline orchestration. DBT and Prefect preferred.
  • Experience with dashboarding tools. Sigma and Hex experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with processes for handling event-based data is a plus.
  • Experience with Python and Javascript is a plus.

2. Machine Learning Engineer

We are looking for an exceptional Machine Learning Engineer to support our players & creators are we continue to grow. As a Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing machine learning models to power our in-game store recommendations and serve users content that they’d find valuable. You’ll identify areas of improvement, iterate on how we’ve done things before, and find better ways of doing things. We are looking for someone who is driven by doing impactful work and is passionate about building great solutions. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Design, develop, implement, and ship high-impact machine learning models that deliver valuable content to our users
  • Partner with the Data infrastructure team on things like our real-time personalization road-map & ranking models
  • Design and run experiments to uncover opportunities for improvement (i.e., A/B tests and model performance)
  • Work closely with Product Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Designers to gather detailed requirements, build pipelines, and implement end-to-end solutions at scale.
  • Champion and apply best practices when it comes to availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with cross-functional partners across the business.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH: 

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in Machine Learning and Applied Science in a production setting, ideally working on personalization, recommendations, ranking, personalization, search, and/or content discovery
  • Excellent software engineering skills in multiple languages. Ability to leverage Python and large-scale data processing with Spark (e.g. PySpark, SparkSQL, and/or Scala). 
  • Experience building and shipping ML Models into production with great results 
  • Exceptional communication skills, the ability to explain complex technical concepts to partners across all business functions. 
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, a strong ownership mindset, and a desire to thrive on minimal oversight and process

3. Product Data Scientist

As a Data Scientist at RecRoom, you'll use your analytical expertise to mentor other scientists and dive deep into player behavior data to drive impactful decisions across the platform. At RecRoom, we tackle a wide array of challenges, from understanding player retention and in-game monetization to optimizing user-generated content, player engagement, and much more. If you have a passion for finding patterns in large datasets and using analytics to inform product development, growth strategies, and player experience, this role is for you!

  • Use quantitative analysis to go beyond surface-level numbers and truly understand what drives player engagement, retention, and monetization.
  • Build and lead end-to-end analytics experiments, reports, and interactive dashboards using SQL, R, Python, or other analytical tools.
  • Mentor junior analysts and data scientists, teaching them advanced statistical methods and how to apply them to RecRoom-specific challenges.
  • Produce actionable insights and recommendations by applying statistical techniques to run robust experimentation to find / deliver value to players.

  • Identify and measure key levers to help influence critical player metrics and make strategic recommendations to optimize the player experience.

  • A degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, or a related field, with a focus on user behavior and engagement in digital products or gaming platforms.
  • Experience in user segmentation, cohort analysis, funnel optimization, time series analysis, and statistical modeling (e.g., regression, clustering).
  • Expertise in SQL, ETL processes, A/B testing, and statistical analysis using tools like R, Python, or similar packages.

4. Senior Software Engineer, Avatar

You would be involved in architecting and building the next generation of systems for player-created avatar customization. These systems touch creation, publishing, validation, optimization, animation, and core gameplay. You will also be involved with work to grow the surface area of how players can customize their avatars. Imagine player-made makeup, body art, emotes, dances, and even entirely new body forms and animations – you'll be at the forefront of defining digital avatars. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Architect new systems that will expand the capabilities of the core avatar systems, adding new forms of avatar expression, and improving the look, feel, and movement of our players.
  • Work closely with our first-party art team who will represent our creators and be the major design stakeholders to guide us to a delightful creation experience.
  • Work closely with partner development teams, including Economy, Building Blocks, Interfaces, Creator Tools, and Rec Room Studio, to deliver systems that help creators enjoy the creation of new avatar customization options, find an audience, build a market, and deliver delight to players.
  • Evolve existing avatar systems to improve usability, add quality-of-life features for creators, and improve memory and compute performance across all of our platforms.
  • Build and extend easy-to-use open-sourced Blender pipeline tools that will be shared with our creator community to help them more easily add content to our platform.
  • Be involved in documenting and sharing the creation process with our creator community via blogs, online docs and videos, and Discord.
  • Review and maintain the code for the avatar systems that exist and that you will build.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN CANDIDATES:

  • 5+ years of professional interactive 3D software or games development experience (preferably using Unity engine)
  • Fluency in C# with experience with memory and performance optimization in Unity.
  • Experience debugging and extending complex, multi-threaded systems
  • Experience shipping a multiplayer game that is used cross-platform on 3D mobile, consoles, and PC screens

5. Senior Software Engineer, Cross Platform

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform team, you will build systems, interactions, and mechanics that are delightful, reliable, and performant across multiple platforms (mobile, console, VR). You will also contribute cross-functionally to a wide variety of features and tools and ensure we are radically cross platform by leading efforts on new ports. 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL: 

  • Design, build, implement, and maintain significant portions of our core game systems across multiple platforms.

6. Senior Software Engineer, Rec Room Studio

Rec Room is a virtual social app where you play and create games with friends. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Rec Room Studio team to build upon our powerful user generated content tools. Built inside the Unity Editor, Rec Room Studio extends their tools to our users to create richer experiences, spaces, Avatars, and items, furthering the creative potential of our radically cross-platform social UGC app. With Rec Room Studio our creators are limited only by their imagination. 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL: 

  • Plan, build, and maintain user generated content tools that expand the depth and quality of experiences our creators can author.
  • Consider the user experience and how to provide systems that unshackles their creativity
  • Proactively prototype new ideas and solutions

7. Senior Accounting Manager

Rec Room is a virtual social club for people from all walks of life! Our Finance team is hiring a Senior Accounting Manager to own our accounting operations as we continue to grow! This role will report to our Controller. As our Accounting Manager, you will ensure our accounting and reporting procedures are accurate, complete, and timely. 

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL: 

  • Assist with managing key accounting operations 
  • Produce periodic financial reports and ensure reported results are compliant 
  • Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to leadership.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
  • Stay up to date with  latest accounting policy changes and assist with implementing any new and necessary policies and procedures
  • Collaborate cross functionally with other teams in company-wide system and process implementation projects.
  • Support the preparation and filing of various tax returns in conjunction with external tax firms.
  • Files quarterly and annual reports
  • Run month-end and close year-end process
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls

8. Principal Product Manager | Discovery

As a Product Manager on Discovery, you will work with a cross-discipline team to build these systems across three layers (model, infra, application) and create engaging experiences for our creators and players. This will include (but is not limited to) creating and implementing a cohesive product strategy while maintaining hands-on involvement with the team's day-to-day work.  

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL: 

  • Own Room Discovery, which includes engagement strategies, recommendation systems, search, messaging, and matchmaking tailored to the specific characteristics of various entity types.
  • Establish key outcomes for the team, such as a comprehensive monitoring system and tracking data, including writing SQL scripts as needed.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Data teams to implement and iterate on features for various entity types.
  • Build trust across product teams at Rec Room to promote cross-team collaboration and coordinate with partners to achieve collective goals.
  • Collaborate closely with Trust & Safety, moderation, and product teams to design and deliver end-to-end solutions and programs to address the most significant risk areas. 
  • Understand the big picture of how real-world harm manifests on the platform, support root cause analysis, and help to drive priorities for impactful projects.
  • Be an in-house subject matter expert by staying up to date on the latest in competitive and industry trends.
  • Think outside the box, taking on both Product Designs as needed to differentiate Rec Room.   

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • 7+ years of product manager experience 
  • 5+ years of experience developing/improving core engagement loops from the ground up
  • 5+ years of experience working on search and discovery products, including products involving machine learning, ranking, and signal building
  • In-depth understanding of the content recommendation process and basic principles.
  • Experience writing queries or manipulating data using SQL/Python/R) to opportunity size, inform long-term roadmaps, experiment, learn, and iterate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to communicate with and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization toward shared goals or objectives.
